  • Family Group Conference Facilitator Role with Birmingham Childrens Trust

    Make a Difference as a Family Group Conference Facilitator.

    We are seeking to recruit a full-time Family Group Conference Facilitator to join our established, experienced and friendly Team.

    As the largest Family Group Conference service in the UK, we place families at the heart of making safe decisions and plans for children that are at risk of being taken into care or to reunify children back to family care by delivering high quality Family Group Conferences. Children and young people are involved along with their wider family network to contribute and attend their FGC’s and are supported by advocates from outside the family. Together, a family plan is agreed by all those involved, and families agree to meet again to assess how well their plan is going and make the changes necessary to protect children.

    The position is full-time and we are ideally looking for someone with Family Group Conference experience who is confident and resilient when working in partnership with families in their homes as well as in the community and virtually where needed.

    You will be facilitating FGC’s and taking a lead in promoting family led practice with other Teams and Professionals, therefore the confidence to work using your own initiative and the ability to lone work is required.

    The following experience and competencies are required for this role:

    • Do you have a social care qualification or, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in relevant field such as teaching, mediation, youth work etc? (If relying on Social Work qualification, you will be required to be registered with General Social Care Council)

    • Do you have a sound knowledge and understanding of the principles and the processes of Family Group Conferencing, child protection practice and childcare legislation and understand the role of other agencies / professionals who work with children and families?

    • Do you have a minimum of 3 years’ experience of working with children and their families from a wide range of backgrounds, including families in crisis?
    • Are you experienced in organising and leading meetings both face to face and remotely and an ability to manage any tensions or conflict?

    • Ability to work independently, in an organised way using initiative, being self-motivated, creative and open minded.
    • Are you flexible, positive and willing to learn, you'll be capable of communicating with people and families from different walks of life and have the ability to work in a wide range of situations, remaining calm in a crisis and adapting to constantly changing situations and priorities is a must for this role?

    • Do you have the ability to communicate effectively in writing with a good level of computer literacy is also required?
    • Are you willing to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends and to be able to travel across a wide geographical area in a timely and flexible manner at various times of the day?
    • You will need to have basic IT proficiency in IT-Microsoft word, sending emails, utilising Microsoft Teams and downloading documents.
    An Enhanced DBS check will be undertaken for the successful Candidates before starting their new role.
