    Charles House is a children's home based in West Heath in south Birmingham recently judged OUTSTANDING  by Ofsted. We provide care for up to 7 children at a time with a range of disabilities. All the children we provide care for are aged between five and eighteen, have a statement of special educational needs and are mobile. They live in the Birmingham area with their families and only come to Charles House for Short Breaks, some may have heard this called ‘respite care’ in the past.

    Our aim is to enable families who have a child with a disability to care for that child to the best of their ability and recharge their energy, whilst knowing their child is cared for by an experienced well trained and above all caring staff team. 

    The role

    • You will have at least 2 years’ experience of working with children including experience of working with disabled children. 
    • You will need to hold the QCF level 3 or equivalent or be willing to undertake the qualification within 6 months of starting the role. 
    • You will be responsible for key working and ensuring good relationships with children and their families as well as working with a wide range of professionals. 
    • You will be expected to undertake a range of training, including training in communication with non- verbal children and some health care training. We have specialist nurse trainers who will enable you to be competent in this area. 
    • You will also be expected to undertake a high level of personal care.
    • You will need to have good organisational skills work as part of a team and be able to plan and engage in a wide range of sport play and leisure activities with children.

    The Trust pay an enhanced night allowance of time and a third for hours worked between 8pm and 6am.

    The Residential provision is a 24hr service, applicants for these roles will be expected to work shifts, weekends and bank holidays.
