• About The Role

  • The Apprentice programme will begin in January 2026. 
     
    We are recruiting for our Social Work Apprenticeship scheme, and this could be just what you are looking for if you have experience of working with children and families and want to progress your career on to the next step.

    This exciting opportunity will provide you with a great start in becoming a Qualified Social Worker for The Trust, learning on the job whilst earning a salary, incurring no student debt, and gaining a BA Hons Social Work degree at the end of it.

    With a dedicated practice educator to support you whilst completing the course along with academic support from Staffordshire University, we will provide you with all the learning opportunities in a statutory Social Work environment to enrich your knowledge and development. You will also benefit from group learning and reflective opportunities from our highly esteemed Practice Academy as well as have a permanent employed role on our fantastic ASYE programme upon successful completion of your apprentice degree.
     
    After successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will gain a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Social Work (England), which will enable you to apply for registration as a Social Worker with the regulatory body, Social Work England. Thereafter you will be provided with a role in our ASYE programme and ongoing career pathway opportunities.     Interview process
    The selection process will be in two parts, 1st Interviews will be held between 11th June – 19th June 2025 by Birmingham Children’s Trust. If you are successful at this stage, you will then progress to the 2nd stage interview at Staffordshire University, this will take place in early September 2025.

    About you
     
    We are looking for applicants who:
    • Can evidence suitable academic ability i.e. GCSE Maths and English (Grade A-C or 9-4) or equivalent i.e. functional skills Maths and English at level 2. Please note, to enrol onto the programme you must provide certificates to evidence these qualifications at interview stage.
    • Have minimum 2 years direct and varied work experience within Children's and families and have the potential to take on the challenges and responsibility of a qualified Social Worker.
    • Are keen to learn and motivated to succeed.
    • Are willing to provide excellent service to children and families open to Birmingham Children’s Trust.
    Applicants are required to hold Level 2 in both Maths and English upon entry to the University. Apprentices who do not hold or cannot evidence their English and/or Maths Level 2 will have the option to be able to sit initial assessments via the system Basic Knowledge Skills Builder (BKSB) to assess they are functioning at Level 2.
     
    The BKSB will be in majority of cases sat face to face at the Stoke on Trent campus under exam conditions with a member of the University Staff. Where an apprentice achieves Level 2 on the initial assessments this will be sufficient evidence that they are functioning at the level required for entry onto the Social Work Apprenticeship programme.
