• About The Role

  • Birmingham Children’s Trust continues to go from strength to strength. We are the largest provider of social care services for children, young people and families in the country. Our goal is to become a centre of excellence for all our workforce.

Working for Birmingham Children's Trust gives you the opportunity to acquire a diverse set of professional experiences; and exceptional professional development. The Children's Advice and Support Services (CASS) is the front door to the largest children’s service department in the country. It is playing its role in making the service thrive for excellence. It provides a specialist area of social work, whereby you have the opportunity to be part of making holistic threshold decisions using the Right Help Right Time threshold document, within tight timescales to ensure that immediate safeguarding concerns are addressed, and any relevant signposting for support is undertaken.

The pace is fast, and at CASS, we cover all of Birmingham, so you can imagine the challenges of progressing over 4000 referrals each month, that number doesn’t include the phone calls we get. We work core hours (8.45am to 5.15 pm Monday to Thursday, 8.45 to 4.15pm on Fridays), and sit with the MASH partner agencies, to continue to develop strong relationships with all those invested in safeguarding children. Staff are required to work from the office 3 days per week which could change to 5 days per week at any point.

There has never been a better time to join Birmingham Children’s Trust and build on your career. If you are ready to make a difference to the lives of children, in a way that develops your skills and knowledge in every area, then CASS is the place for you.

    About You:

We are looking for dedicated and compassionate individuals who are committed to making a difference. The ideal candidate will have:

    • A degree in Social Work and you must have completed your ASYE.
    • Registration with Social Work England.
    • Experience working with children and families in a social work setting.
    • Strong assessment and analytical skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • The ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.

Please note that the retention pay at CASS is £2,400 per annum

Interview date: 10th and 11th July (face to face at One Avenue Road, Birmingham)

    Safeguarding

At Birmingham Children’s Trust, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Depending on the role, you may be asked to undergo the appropriate level of Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check to assess your suitability for working with children and young people.

The level of check (Standard, Enhanced, or Enhanced with Barred List) is determined based on the specific responsibilities of the role and the level of contact with children and young people.

We are committed to the fair treatment of all applicants, including those with criminal records. Having a criminal record will not necessarily bar an individual from working with us. This will depend on the nature of the position and the circumstances and background of the offence.
