  • SCS Clinical Practitioner (Practitioner Psychologist / Senior Social Worker)

    Part Time post at 18.25hrs

An exciting opportunity has arisen for experienced psychologists and social workers who are keen to support children and young people who display sexually harmful behaviour, to join our Safer Connections Service (SCS). We are keen to invite those with a clinical or forensic psychology qualification and senior social workers to join our developing team.

The SCS team sits alongside the Therapeutic Emotional Support Service (TESS) delivering consultation, assessment, intervention and support to children and young people who display harmful sexual behaviour between the ages of 7-17 years.

The SCS team adopts a multi-agency approach and delivers bespoke and tailored interventions and programmes of education and support to children, young people and their parents and caregivers, regarding harmful sexualised behaviours. The team has recently gone through a period of transition and review to ensure we continue to align with best practice and evidence-based approaches to service delivery, making this an exciting time to join our team.

The SCS team works collaboratively with our partner agencies forming close working arrangements with the wider Birmingham Children’s Trust Early Help support network, Child in Needs teams, Safeguarding and Children in Care services, Birmingham Youth Justice Service, Police, and our local CAMHS service known as Forward Thinking Birmingham.

The team is currently comprised of a Team Manager and 3 Clinical Practitioners, and 2 HSB Practitioners. We are looking to recruit 2 additional team members from a social work and applied practitioner psychology background, who can demonstrate their experience and skills in understanding vulnerable children, young people and their families and supporting them to respond to and manage risk of harmful sexualised behaviour and to make positive changes towards healthy and safe relationships.

Successful applicants will be joining an organisation and service committed to continuous improvement, striving to deliver excellence and embracing best practice, innovation, creativity and research.

We are looking for candidates with passion, motivation and enthusiasm to:

    • deliver a high-quality service to children, families, caregivers and victims of harmful sexualised behaviour.
    • with both the experience and skills matched to the relevant job description and person specification.
    • have a desire to work with and alongside others, to learn, innovate and deliver improvements.
    • an individual who can work independently and as part of a team.
    • with a desire to work directly with children, young people and their families who have experienced significant adversity and traumatic experiences.
    • are an individual who has experience of working alongside children who display harmful sexualised behaviours or has a passion to develop in this unique area of practice.

We will provide you with access to training, regular professional supervision, and on-going support.

Previous experience working with children and young people with presentations relating to harmful sexual behaviour would be beneficial. However, we are also keen to hear from psychologists and senior social workers from other specialties with skills in formulation, assessing and managing risk, and have the ability to look beyond behaviour.  Experience working with children and young people who have histories of early adversity, social care or youth justice involvement, childhood trauma and or significant attachment disruption would also be desirable.

We are looking for applicants who can demonstrate an interest in evidence-based practice and research and who are keen to develop their knowledge and skills within this specialism.

If you share our commitment and passion in making a lasting difference for vulnerable children and young people and can work as part of a team, we would like to hear from you.

To be considered for this role please include a supporting statement demonstrating how you meet the competencies required as outlined in the attached person specification.
