We are looking for a professional and adaptable to join us as a Business Support Assistant, to work in the TESS business support team.
The Trust’s Therapeutic Emotional Support Service (TESS) is the emotional wellbeing service for children in care and care leavers. Its purpose is to promote the health and emotional wellbeing of children and young people and to support those who have responsibility for their care. TESS is grounded in the relationship-based tradition and heavily influenced by systemic, strengths-based, restorative and trauma-informed approaches.
TESS work closely with social work colleagues in CIC and safeguarding teams, fostering, children’s disability teams, and the care leavers service. We also work closely with our local CAMHS service for children in care in Forward Thinking Birmingham (FTB).
The TESS business support team plays a crucial role in providing support to TESS.
As part of a centralised and flexible support service, maintaining critical services to children and families, it is our priority that the team provides support and works flexibly across the Trust providing advice and guidance where required.
We have been rated as ‘Good’ by Ofsted, following a 2023 inspection. This is a fantastic achievement for Birmingham Children's Trust, with many positive highlights focusing on areas including the quality of staff leadership, partnership working, safeguarding and corporate parenting.
This is a hybrid role based in Birmingham so you must reside within a suitable commutable distance around Birmingham and have the correct right-to-work documents to work in the UK. Sadly, we do not support those who require sponsorship.
The team is currently based at 67 Bournbrook Road, Selly Oak, Birmingham, B29 7BX (Monday to Friday between operational hours). There is an expectation that you can be flexible and support in different locations at Birmingham office locations as and when required.
About you:
You will need to be able to work effectively within a dedicated team environment, be customer focused and able to deliver the role with a flexible approach.
- Be a clear, confident communicator with strong verbal and written communication skills, including experience answering telephone enquiries, welcoming visitors professionally, actively listening, and accurately relaying information.
- With excellent attention to detail and the ability to work accurately and efficiently, including strong literacy and numeracy skills.
- Have the ability to work independently using initiative and a proactive approach to ensure service and organisational objectives are achieved.
- Have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive business relationships with children, young people, carers, parents, and professionals in a sensitive and respectful manner.
- Be a supportive and reliable team player who works collaboratively, assists colleagues when needed, and contributes positively to a professional working environment.
- Have the ability to work flexibly within a diverse team environment, providing cover where required to ensure continuity of service delivery.
- Have strong organisational and multitasking skills, with experience managing competing and changing priorities effectively while maintaining a high standard of work.
- Be able to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately, particularly within a children’s services setting.
- Demonstrate competent IT skills, including experience using Microsoft Office and administrative systems.
