Birmingham Children’s Trust is looking for a skilled and experienced social worker to join our Case Progression Team on a fixed term basis for a period of 2 years. You must be a qualified social worker with at least three years’ experience of completing good quality court work.
This is a key quality assurance role focused on driving timely progress through the court process. You will support social workers and managers to ensure pre-proceedings and care proceedings are robust, well evidenced and professionally strong, helping secure legal permanence for children without delay.
In this role, you will:
• Provide direct support and guidance to social workers in preparing court documentation and evidence
• Work alongside team managers to strengthen oversight and quality assurance of court work
• Track and support the progression of cases, helping to reduce delay and ensure children achieve permanence without drift
• Contribute to improving practice across the service through coaching, mentoring, training and by providing constructive challenge
• Act as a link between operational teams and legal services, promoting effective partnership working

This is a hybrid role based in Birmingham, UK so you must have the correct right-to-work documents to work in the UK. Sadly, we do not support those who require sponsorship or on a VISA.
About you
We are seeking someone who can deliver and quality assure strong court work, including statements, care plans and evidence. You will have a strong understanding of public law proceedings and be able to support and challenge practice to improve quality and reduce delay.
You will also need to:
• Maintain active registration with Social Work England.
• Hold a recognised certification in social work, degree level or equivalent.
• Substantial experience of care proceedings, pre-proceedings and permanence planning
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to review practice, identify drift and support timely decision-making
• Experience of preparing high-quality statements, care plans, chronologies and other court documents
• Confidence in giving evidence and understanding the expectations of the court arena
• Ability to coach, mentor and challenge practitioners and managers to improve practice standards
• Excellent partnership working skills, including effective liaison with Legal Services, Children’s Guardians and wider professionals
• A sound understanding of legislation, statutory guidance and best practice relating to children in care and permanence
• A consistent focus on achieving the right outcomes for children without unnecessary delay
