• About The Role

  • We have a new and rewarding opportunity for a Night Wake Staff to join our team. As our serving Night Wake Staff in a residential care setting, you will need to possess and demonstrate key qualities and skills that are essential for providing care and supervision to children and young people.

You will supervise the young people during the night, to assist in the care and support of young people and to ensure their safety in the home. You'll monitor the security of the building and the grounds and take appropriate action

The essential responsibilities for this role also include ensuring the safety and well-being of residents at all times, providing personalised care and support based on individual needs, conducting regular checks, and maintaining accurate records during the night. Participation in team meetings to improve care strategies, as well as assisting in the training of new staff and sharing best practices, are also key responsibilities.

We have been rated as ‘Good’ by Ofsted, following a 2023 inspection. This is a fantastic achievement for Birmingham Children's Trust, with many positive highlights focusing on areas including the quality of staff leadership, partnership working, safeguarding and corporate parenting.

This is a hybrid role based in Birmingham so you must reside within a suitable commutable distance around Birmingham and have the correct right-to-work documents to work in the UK. Sadly, we do not support those who require sponsorship.

    About you:

    • Empathy and compassion are crucial for understanding the emotions of children and fostering a nurturing environment.
    • Strong communication skills are necessary for clear interactions with both residents and staff; this includes active listening and encouraging open dialogue.
    • Teamwork and collaboration are vital in enhancing care and ensuring smooth transitions between shifts. Attention to detail is important for accurately monitoring behavior and documenting care needs, which is critical for safety.
    • Crisis management skills are essential, as the ability to remain calm under pressure and respond quickly to emergencies can make a significant difference.
    • Flexibility and adaptability are required, particularly the willingness to cover shifts on short notice, including weekends and holidays. Integrity and reliability are also important; maintaining confidentiality and being trustworthy helps in building strong relationships with residents.
    • A commitment to personal development through ongoing training is necessary to stay updated on best practices in child care.
    • You should embody qualities such as empathy, strong communication, teamwork, integrity, and adaptability to create a supportive environment for young people.
