• About The Role

  • We have been rated as ‘Good’ by Ofsted, following a 2023 inspection. This is a fantastic achievement for Birmingham Children's Trust, with many positive highlights focusing on areas including the quality of staff leadership, partnership working, safeguarding and corporate parenting.

As a Placements Officer you will provide a placement finding service for Children in Care. You will promote the wellbeing of children while also working on the principle of Best Value.

This is a hybrid role based in Birmingham so you must reside within a suitable commutable distance around Birmingham and have the correct right-to-work documents to work in the UK. Sadly, we do not support those who require sponsorship.

    About You:

    • You will have responsibility for managing and organising a caseload of children who require planned & emergency placements into residential, fostering or supported accommodation provisions.
    • You will be familiar with, and can work within the legislation and guidance governing the placements of children in care, preferably as a social worker, residential worker or in a previous safeguarding role
    • You must be proficient in the use of IT, be able to interrogate multiple applications, able to multi-task and work under pressure.
    • You will be required to maintain effective and concise case recording and update various information systems, relating to placements.
    • Experience with the Trust’s main operating system – Eclipse, would be beneficial.
    • You will have the ability to negotiate appropriate levels of service provision considering best values principles and promote good working relationships with internal & external professionals
Please note this is a fast-paced duty - 'case-holding' role where you will be balancing competing priorities of same, next day and planned referrals to identify outcomes and homes for children.  You will not be working directly with the children, but with the stakeholders and providers who will provide care and support to them.

This role requires participation in a duty system. This role is hybrid working, with a requirement to be office based when required and have the correct right-to-work documents to work in the UK. Sadly, we do not support those who require sponsorship.

Interviews will be held week commencing 21 September 2026
